Our guests this week are former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill and Jim Gray, Co-Chairs of the Gateway to Greatness Campaign for Long Beach City College. They discuss the goal of the $5 million campaign to provide first semester scholarships to entering students.

Also appearing on the show are Cliff Ratkovich and David Malmuth, co-developers of the Second Street and PCH project. The developers are seeking community input as they put together their plans for the site of the current Seaport Marina Hotel.

Our final guest is Stan Poe, who discusses the 100+ year history of Naples and shows pictures from his wonderfully illustrated book on this very special part of Long Beach.

Rock N’ Summer Party – A Big Hit!

Straight Talk celebrated its 15^th Anniversary on Saturday, June 21^st with a Charity Night to benefit the Long Beach Police Athletic League (PAL). The Honorary Co-Chairs were Governor George Deukmejian, Mayor Bob Foster and CSULB President F. King Alexander.

Nearly 180 guests, many attired in festive Hawiian garb, attended the Rock N’ Summer party at the outdoor tent at the El Dorado Country Club. The food was delicious and the band- Ronny and The Classics- was hot. The evening raised nearly $20,000, a record amount for a Straight Talk Charity Night.  A warm thank you to all who supported the event!

Among the honored guests who attended were Governor George Deukmejian and his wife Gloria, Long Beach First Lady Nancy Foster, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and State Senator Alan Lowenthal.

All Charity Night proceeds benefit the Long Beach Police Athletic League. PAL is a city-wide crime prevention program that relies on athletics, recreational and educational activities to form a bond between officers and the youth of our community. PAL has a proven track record in reducing crime and turning young lives around.
